American Airlines Medical Information Form (MEDIF)

American Airlines may require medical clearance for passengers with certain medical conditions, reduced mobility, or special in-flight medical needs. Always check with American Airlines before booking or travelling.

American Airlines Medical Information Form (MEDIF)

Passengers with medical conditions not treated and stabilized, or passengers which conditions that can be aggravated during flight, must have medical clearance before flight reservation.

A MEDIF form is usually completed by the treating doctor to describe the passenger’s medical condition and any special travel needs, such as oxygen, wheelchair assistance, medical escort, or stretcher arrangements.

American Airlines may review the MEDIF before confirming whether the passenger is fit to fly and whether special assistance can be provided.

Important Travel Note

The MEDIF should be completed accurately by the passenger’s treating doctor. American Airlines may refuse travel, delay acceptance, or request changes to travel arrangements if the medical information is incomplete, if the passenger is not considered fit to fly, or if the required special assistance cannot be arranged.

For oxygen, stretcher, wheelchair, or other medical assistance, contact American Airlines or your travel agent as early as possible before departure.
